Tips for a Bouncy Lawn in Spring

If you neglect spring lawn care, you could end up paying for your negligence for the rest of the year. Follow these spring lawn care tips and your lawn will be beautiful and bouncy all season. Spring lawn care doesn’t involve even close to the amount of work that is needed in mowing throughout the summer months. It is a relatively simple and trouble-free process.

Raking

Raking, against common thinking, is more than just removing leaves, and is a very important tip for caring for your lawn in the spring. Raking is for controlling thatch, along with leaves. A thatch build-up of more than one-half inch is considered excessive. Thatch is the reason that, when you rake your leaves during the fall, you should make an effort to rake deeply. Refrain from just skimming the surface when you rake the leaves. Even if you followed this advice in the fall, however, it’s still recommended to give your lawn a spring raking. This will remove grass blades that died over the winter and are just waiting to become thatch.

Aeration

If your lawn is subjected to very much traffic year after year, it will ultimately start to show signs of decline. Your lawn is most likely suffering from compaction in such cases. Lawn aeration is the best remedy for compaction. Unless your compaction problem is severe, however, most experts recommend postponing having your lawn aerated until the fall season. Aeration is a very important part of lawn care in the spring.

Overseeding

If your lawn is riddled with bare patches due to heavy traffic, neglect, or dog spots, you may need to apply grass seed to fill them in. This great solution is known as “overseeding lawns.” Always apply a nitrogen slow-release fertilizer when you overseed. Also, apply a quick-release nitrogen fertilizer five weeks after the grass germinates. However, spring is not the best time to overseed your lawn. So postpone overseeding until fall, which is the preferred time, unless your situation is desperate.

Fertilizing

One of the best spring lawn care tips is to remember to fertilize. Most lawns can be fertilized organically by using a mulching mower and compost. However, for those who prefer chemical fertilizers, a lighter feeding in spring and a heavier feeding in fall can make your lawn green and beautiful. Using fertilizer will aid greatly in your spring lawn care.

Pulling Weeds

Though bothersome, pulling weeds is a necessary part of the upkeep of your lawn during the spring season. Make sure to keep an eye out for any emerging perennial weeds. The best way to remove weeds is to dig them out by the roots. Spraying weeds with post-emergent herbicides is less effective in spring than in fall, and, therefore, shouldn’t be used as widely. However, if you do choose to spray, choose an herbicide for broadleaf weeds. Pulling weeds, though usually inconvenient, is very important for your spring lawn care.

Improving the hardscape of your yard is one way to improve the overall landscaping.Hardscape is the part of your yard where concrete is involved. That is the specialty of my San Diego masonry contractors company. We do custom concrete work which is unique from the others that we have done already. This custom concrete work can really make a yard look nice.  Do it right and it will really enhance what you do with the plants and trees.

The next thing you can do with your hardscape is to use interlocking pavers. This is where you use things like bricks or rocks that interlock together. In other words you just don’t interlock them but design the interlocking so that it would look great in the landscape.  This creates beautiful designs with rocks and bricks.  This is a very popular option with my clients of my interlocking pavers San Diego company.  It is even becoming more popular than some concrete work at times.

Great Tips for Your Outside Lighting

When selecting outdoor lighting you ought to recognize that the wrong lighting can spoil the entire environment whilst the right lighting can construct a striking alteration in your landscape. Understanding what variety of lighting will match your house and garden is significant. You can get the feeling that you’ve always been dreaming about provided that you take care to discover what is going to work and what is not going to work for your landscape.

outdoor Lighting is also helpful for security reasons. When the days get shorter, especially in winter, outdoor Lighting can lengthen the day and dramatically change the environment of your outside living spaces. With the right planning you can give you and your guests a nice place for entertainment in those nighttime hours.

Types of Outdoor Lighting

You can divide outside Lighting into four different categories:

Lighting for security: Security Lighting is used for providing it to areas where intruders might want to lurk.It is good idea to try and keep these lights away from your bedroom or living area has they are normally incredibly bright and activated by any type of motion. You can also have a manual on/off switch for your Lighting so that you can override automatic illumination.

Job Lights: The purpose of task Lighting is to perform a specific duty as in providing light when you’re outside grilling, or giving you night when you need to walk up and down steps or along pathways. Task Lighting should be kept between your eyes and the object that wishes to be lighted. See to it that it does not glare, as an overly bright light will blind rather than guide.

Lighting for Accent:Accent Lighting is often used to create nice effects, or highlight some of the features of the landscape. As an example, if you want to eliminate one of your statues, a light  pointing up can create a nice effect. If you want to create a silhouette effect, you can do this by placing the light between the object and a wall or a fence. You can also provide ambient Lighting which helps people to feel comfortable in the environment.

Moonlighting or Starlight - If you want to create kind of a magical effect, you can imitate Moonlight or starlight. Moonlighting can be produced by putting outside lights in trees. Make sure that you point the lights downwards, which will create kind of a dappled effect, which is in effect like what the moon does. You can produce a somewhat starlight effect as well, which is incredibly nice. This can be done by suspending a little tiny lights throughout the branches and trees, or by using little flickering candles sprinkled throughout the space.

Things to remember:

No matter what type of effects you are going forward your Lighting, try to be careful not to do too much, as a little bit less can incredibly make for a nice setting. If Lighting isn’t necessary then don’t use them, and you can also make a incredibly nice little effect by using a low wattage bulb. Another thing you need to be careful about is not sending light upwards. Never use lights in straight lines up and down paths like the airport runway effect which is a incredibly common error.

Shun using yellow lights as they are unflattering to both people and plant life. Instead of those, you want to use blue white bulbs or spend a little money and get yourself some daylight blue filters for your fixture settings. The lights should be kept where they are easily accessible for changing light bulbs. After spending the time and the money to set up your outdoor Lighting, make sure that you get outside and take advantage of it.
